The Black Bull occurrence is located in Lowhee Gulch, about 2.6 kilometres west-northwest of Barkerville.

The Black Bull showing lies within the Barkerville Terrane of the Omineca Belt. The Barkerville Terrane is in thrust contact with Triassic Quesnel Terrane rocks to the west and Hadrynian to Lower Paleozoic Cariboo Terrane rocks to the east. The Barkerville Terrane in this region is underlain by the dominantly metasedimentary rocks of the Hadrynian to Lower Paleozoic Snowshoe Group. In this area, the Snowshoe Group comprises limestone, phyllite and quartzite. These rocks have been regionally metamorphosed to greenschist facies.

The Black Bull showing area is underlain by strata of both the Downey and Hardscrabble Mountain successions of the Snowshoe Group. These are in fault contact with each other along Lowhee Gulch. The Black Bull quartz vein is exposed in the upper part of the Lowhee hydraulic pit (093H 118) along the bottom of the gulch. The vein is about 274 metres southwest of the B.C. vein (093H 139) and about 609 metres northwest of the Canusa shaft (093H 058). The main part of the Black Bull vein is 64 metres long, but vein matter extends discontinuously for another 183 metres to the northwest from the main part. It is from 1.2 to 3.6 metres wide at the widest part at the southeast end, where it terminates abruptly without faulting. The vein contains pyrite mineralization and occurs in a sequence of micaceous quartzite, phyllite and limestone. Two grab samples taken from the vein assayed 4.8 and 11.0 grams per tonne (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1948, page 90). Similar but smaller subparallel veins occur near the northwestern extension of the vein. Gold is reported to have been panned from the quartz of these veins, but there is no assurance that it was not placer gold (Bulletin 38).

In 2002, International Wayside Gold Mines Ltd. made the final payment required for it to obtain a 100 per cent right, title and interest in both the surface and undersurface rights to Crown grant Lot 2F (New Black Bull), known as Blackbull and situated at Lowhee Creek (093H 118), and Crown grant Lot 42F (Waoming), known as Canusa (093H 058), situated at Stout Gulch.

In 2005, International Wayside Gold Mines Ltd. released results from its exploration program update on the Lowhee target; results have been received for 18 of 26 diamond-drill holes. The Lowhee target lies along the east flank of Lowhee canyon, just above the Lowhee hydraulic pit (093H 118). The target extends over a distance of 1575 metres, mostly in the same stratigraphic position as the Bonanza Ledge gold deposit (093H 140) occupies. The Lowhee target can be subdivided into four target areas, based on geophysical anomalies and clusters of strong gold geochemical results, as follows: 1) Black Bull quartz vein - up to 3.9 metres wide and exposed for 68.9 metres; 2) Southern Lowhee anomaly - consists of several self potential (SP) anomalies and gold-in-soil up to 6.7 grams per tonne. It covers an area 394 metres long and up to 98 metres wide; 3) Northern Lowhee anomaly - consists of one main SP anomaly and gold-in-soil up to 4.2 grams per tonne. This anomaly also measures 394 metres in length and up to 98 metres in width. The drill road cut exposed several quartz veins ranging from 1-13 centimetres in width. Several of the veins assayed multiple parts per million gold, with a high of 58.9 grams per tonne; and 4) Butts zone - this area was the site of underground development by the Cariboo Gold Quartz mine just prior to being shut down due to Second World War. The target was accessed from the 1500 level of the mine (now inaccessible), and by a decline shaft from the surface. A swarm of quartz veins, one set subparallel to foliation and another set with an orthogonal strike and vertical dip, cut highly limonitic rocks in the side of Lowhee canyon. The target extends for 86 metres along the side of the canyon. Gold can be panned from some of the outcrops. At least a third of the rock geochemistry samples have returned gold values over 1 gram per tonne, with the high being 204 grams per tonne.

The Black Bull vein yielded two minor intercepts, but no replacement sulphides were found. The best intercept in the Southern Lowhee anomaly came in hole LH-05-06, which intersected replacement pyrite with very similar character to the Bonanza Ledge mineralization. The hole cut a zone from 177.5 to 182.4 metres that carried 5 to 10 per cent pyrite and assayed up to 0.81 gram per tonne gold. Holes LH-05-03, 5, 7, 8 and 9 contained minor amounts of replacement pyrite. Hole LH-05-09 intersected a 0.66-metre silicified breccia that assayed 2.58 grams per tonne gold. Two fans of holes were drilled in the Northern Lowhee anomaly. In the first fan, all four holes contained scattered quartz-pyrite veins. Hole LH-05-15 also cut replacement pyrite associated with a quartz-pyrite vein, which together, yielded 3.3 metres of 2.58 grams per tonne gold. In the second fan, holes LH-05-17 and LH-05-18 each contained replacement pyrite mineralization, from 4.9 to 6.6 metres thick, and ranging from 3 to 30 per cent pyrite (Press Release, International Wayside Gold Mines Ltd., July 12, 2005).
